Ways to Volunteer
Ways to Volunteer
There are several ways to serve as a volunteer attorney with SMRLS. Take the first step by filling out your Volunteer Attorney Application. In the Application, indicate in which areas of the law you would like to counsel or represent clients and what jurisdictions.
Direct Referrals
Based on your preferences, one of the SMRLS Volunteer Attorney Coordinators will contact you about clients who need assistance. You make the decision on whether you are able to take the case. These cases may be advice only, brief services or full representation.
Clinics
In the Twin Cities metro area, the Tuesday Evening Clinic is held 3 times each month. Client meetings are set up based on the case preferences of the Volunteer Attorneys. The cases range from advice-only counsel, to brief services, to full representation.
Pro Bono Attorneys
SMRLS needs pro bono attorneys for cases ranging from housing, family, elder, consumer law, and more. Volunteering your time is a great way to make an immediate impact on the lives of our low-income client community. Click on any of the open cases at the bottom of the screen to find out which case best fits your expertise. Any questions? Please contact one of our volunteer coordinators today!
