Get To Know SMRLS Staff: Argerie Diaz-White

Argerie Diaz-White joined SMRLS in May 2023 as the Intake Team Supervisor. Argerie first came to the U.S. when she was 16 years old as an AFS exchange student. She lived with a wonderful family in Longmont, Colorado for a year and graduated from Longmont High School. She graduated from the University of Costa Rica with a Juris Doctor.

She came back to the U.S., this time as a Fulbright scholar at the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs and the Law School at the University of Minnesota. During her fellowship year, Argerie was offered a paid internship with the Management Reform Group at the United Nations Secretariat in New York. Argerie loved living in New York for the summer. She went to Broadway shows and concerts several times a week and really enjoyed the multicultural environment at the UN.

After the internship, Argerie went back to Costa Rica and continued working as the Legal Counsel for the National Archives. Argerie met her late husband Bob during her fellowship year at the University of MN and they got married in the Twin Cities in 2001. Argerie worked for Children’s Home Society and Lutheran Social Services of Minnesota for 14 years. As a Program Manager, she was responsible for all the international adoption programs in Latin America.

Argerie is the proud mother of her son Kieran who is a junior at the School of Science and Engineering at the University of Minnesota. Argerie enjoys reading, watching movies, listening to music, and traveling, especially to her home country.
