SSA 2025: Changes and Challenges at Social Security

Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at 2:00P.M

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has undergone significant updates in 2025. The Social Security Fairness Act has eliminated the Windfall Elimination Provision (WEP) and the Government Pension Offset (GPO), allowing millions of public workers to receive full Social Security benefits.  Service issues continue to be a concern, with staffing shortages, phone delays, and website outages affecting beneficiaries.  New identity verification measures limit accessibility, especially for rural residents. Overpayment policies have been revised and increased the burden on overpaid beneficiaries. Persistent myths—like claims of 150-year-olds collecting benefits—continue to circulate. And SSA has confirmed a new Commissioner, Frank Bisignano, with a term ending in 2031. Hear about all of these issues and more.
