Ramsey County Housing Court Clinic

As a consequence of the COVID-19 pandemic, SMRLS expects to see a record-high number of eviction cases in 2021.We are resuming our Ramsey County Housing Court Clinic beginning on Jan 12, 2021. The clinic will run every Tuesday and Thursday morning during the Housing Court first appearance calendar. Clients receive free legal advice from a volunteer attorney before heading into the courtroom. They can also apply for Emergency Assistance and work with a mediator from the Dispute Resolution Center to reach a settlement in their case. You don’t need to have experience with Landlord Tenant Law to volunteer.

SMRLS housing staff attorneys Tuz Xiong and Thomas Mueller will offer an updated training for volunteers that includes pandemic related issues, as we prepare to respond to an anticipated higher volume of evictions in 2021. The training will be January 7th at 11 am via Microsoft Teams. You can register here.

If you cannot attend at this time, an updated training video and instructions will be posted to smrls.org/volunteer after the training. Please contact Emily Bowen with any questions at Emily.Bowen@smrls.org

The COVID-19 pandemic and the ensuing economic crisis have impacted low income Minnesotans in large numbers. Helping someone expunge an eviction from their records can make a big difference in their life, helping them find safe and affordable housing.

Join the RCBA New Lawyers, in conjunction with SMRLS, on March 11th at 5 pm to learn the basics of eviction expungements, and on March 18th at 1 pm to assist individuals with their eviction expungement case preparation, including preparing the petition, and discussing the process.
