Accountant - St. Paul

Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services, Inc. (SMRLS) is seeking to fill an Accountant position based in its St. Paul Administrative office.

RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will report to the Director of Finance. Position will handle a variety of duties including accounts payable, accounts receivable, account reconciliations, and vendor maintenance. Other duties will include resolving general finance concerns, process improvement and various annual projects such as managing IRS form 1099’s. Position will assist with preparation of various audits (financial and grant-related) as necessary. Address and respond to vendor inquiries. Candidates will be expected to assist with general office and other duties as assigned and to use firm policies and procedures to safeguard assets and maintain data confidentiality, comply with SMRLS’ policies, practices, and guiding principles and be able to accept flexible work assignments as responsibilities change over time.

QUALIFICATIONS: A 4-year degree in Finance or Accounting is preferred. 2-5 years of general accounting practice (GAAP) required, with preference given to those with non-profit accounting experience. Prior experience with the Oracle/NetSuite accounting package highly desirable. Candidates need to demonstrate above average attention to detail and accuracy, ability to understand and follow policies and procedures, good Microsoft Excel and Word skills, effective verbal and written communication skills (in English), the ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines with minimal supervision. Candidates should have experience in an office environment and be prepared to demonstrate good judgement, the ability to learn quickly, the ability to work to well independently as well as the ability to work constructively with others in a team setting. This is a key position and will require excellent attendance and excellent communication skills.

STARTING DATE: Immediate opening.

RATE OF PAY: $42,800+ DOE, pursuant to SMRLS’ salary scale, with very good benefits.
