9th Annual Social Justice UNCORKED!
SMRLS is pleased to announce that this year’s 9th Annual Social Justice UNCORKED! was an immense success! Over 250 corporate and firm representatives, SMRLS partners and staff navigated through the afternoon rain and into the warm ambiance of the Loews Hotel in downtown Minneapolis.
With a glass of champagne in hand, Honorary Co-Chairs Karin Nelsen, Vice President of Legal & Human Resources (Minnesota Vikings), Mary Giesler, Vice President & General Counsel (Minnesota Twins) and Steve Weinreich, Vice President & General Counsel (Minnesota Wild), kicked off the evening with a pre-event, “Toast for Justice”, welcoming the special guests and celebrating SMRLS’ mission and vision. The pre-event“Toast for Justice” was graciously underwritten by Premier Sponsor Briggs and Morgan, as well as Barnes & Thornburg, Bill Bieber and Former Justice Helen Meyer, Michelle Miller and SiebenCarey.
During cocktail hour, Mina Moore and her band provided the sound track for the evening while guests enjoyed a variety of treats, heavy appetizers, two wine tasting rooms, a Summit Beer sampling room, and custom mocktails! Silent auction items ranging from Ordway tickets to Disney Park Hopper passes to a Beer Experience for Five at Insight Brewing lined the walls.
At 8:00PM, guests were ushered into the ballroom for coffee, dessert and a formal welcome by Campaign for Legal Aid Committee Chair, Steve Kirsch. After recognizing all of the generous sponsors that made this year’s UNCORKED! possible, Richard Duncan from Faegre Baker Daniels LLP accepted the prestigious 2016 Social Justice Award for “extraordinary partnership in providing access to justice to those most in need” over the last 5 years of their sponsorship.
Co-Chairs Karin, Mary, and Steve each took a few minutes to speak on behalf of SMRLS, and then introduced former SMRLS client, Gabbie, and her son, Vlad, who captivated the room with their story of how SMRLS’ family law unit (and Metro Family Law Lead Attorney, Val), changed their lives.
Gabbie's speech was met with a standing applause from the audience.
SMRLS would like to thank everyone who made this event possible, along with our vendors, volunteers and, most importantly, our donors.
