Payroll Specialist, St. Paul

 

Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services, Inc. (SMRLS) is seeking to fill a Payroll Specialist position based in its St. Paul Administrative office.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  

This position will report directly to the Controller. Position will handle all payroll duties including reconciliation of time sheets, benefit deductions, leave tracking and payroll reporting. Depending upon skills and prior experience, other duties could include accounts payable bill processing, preparation and import of journal entries, accounts receivable invoice preparation and cash receipts processing, preparation of salary and benefit allocations, preparation of bank and general ledger reconciliations.  Candidates will be expected to assist with general office and other duties as assigned, and use firm policies and procedures to safeguard assets and maintain data confidentiality, comply with SMRLS’ policies, practices, and guiding principles and be able to accept flexible work assignments as responsibilities change over time.

QUALIFICATIONS: 

Candidates should have a degree in finance or accounting and an understanding of generally accepted accounting principle. 2-5 years of direct payroll processing required.  Experience with ADP processing preferred.  Prior experience with the Oracle/NetSuite accounting package desirable. Candidates need to demonstrate above average attention to detail and accuracy, ability to understand and follow policies and procedures, good Microsoft Excel and Word skills, effective verbal and written communication skills (in English), ability to prioritize work to meet deadlines with minimal supervision.  Candidates should have experience in an office environment and be prepared to demonstrate good judgement, the ability to learn quickly, the ability to work well independently as well as the ability to work constructively with others in a team setting.  This is a key position and will require excellent attendance and excellent communication skills.

RATE OF PAY: 

Starting salary dependent upon qualifications and experience, pursuant to SMRLS’ salary scale, with very good benefits.
